Dell Edmonton in the news again!

So, ever wonder what is going to happen to that big building in Edmonton's south side that I worked in? I really had no idea who and what it would be used for. Well we found out today. The Edmonton Journal says that "Alberta's largest" credit Union is going to make it there own, as of November 1st. I really want to see what they are going to do with that building. As it had to have been the best place I had ever worked in. It was an ok job too and the people there were fine for the most part.

Wow I got a post out today. I rock and so does Starbucks.

Now here is a picture for you. :)

Picture day

Here are a few pictures I have seen around the net. They are kind of cool.

The rainbow like that (upside down), are called fire rainbows, because they have a flame like appearance.

And that is all. I work again for the next four days at least. I will try and post something in those days but as you know it is a long time for me to get there and back.

Canada's second national anthem

CTV Inc. and Copyright Music & Visuals announced today that CTV Inc. has acquired the rights to "The Hockey Theme". CTV and Copyright Music & Visuals agreed, in principle to the deal last Friday after the CBC publicly announced they could not reach a deal with rights holders. TSN and RDS will now be using that iconic song during there hockey coverage, beginning this coming season. As well CTV will be using the song during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic games for their hockey coverage.

"The song has a long and storied history in Canadian sports and has become ingrained in the hearts and minds of hockey fans across the country. It is an iconic tune, embraced by Canadians everywhere, and we felt it was imperative to save it. We know we will be in hockey forever, so there's no doubt this acquisition will create value for us," said Rick Brace, President, Revenue, Business Planning and Sports, CTV Inc. "It's an honor and a privilege to own such a cherished piece of Canadiana."

CTV has also announced that they will be playing more Canadian hockey on TSN. Saying that in the deal with the NHL they will have more coverage of Canadian teams, at least one every game.

So what now for the CBC? Are we still going to have Hockey Night in Canada?

Hockey Night in Canada is one of the highest rated programs on Canadian TV and is one of the oldest sports related programs still on the air. Being on air since November 1931 when it transmitted the Toronto Maple Leafs games every Saturday night on the Canadian National Railway radio network, as the General Motors Hockey Broadcast. In 1933 the CRBC, CNR's successor, started broadcasting the Canadiens and the Maroons games in Quebec. Then in 1934 the broadcast became known as the Imperial Esso Hockey broadcast when Imperial Oil of Canada took over sponsorship.

1936 saw the games being broadcasted on CRBC's successor, the CBC and called it Hockey Night in Canada. In 1965 to 1976 the games were broadcasted on Sunday nights instead of Saturday, untill which the games moved exclusively to television, though they had been on the air every Saturday since 1952.

The CBC still has its broadcasting rights through the 2013-2014 season. What they are going to do after that is not known.

Earth the final frontier.

That girl there is about 13 years old, her name, Severn Cullis-Suzuki. What more she did this speech in 1992! In 1992 some 12 year old girl had more insight to global warming then most of us do now some 16 years later. How can we let this be? Why is it that we still doubt that this is true?

On November 9, 2004 NASA's satellites caught images of an iceberg (B-15a) the size of Long Island breaking off in the Antarctic and for two months floating free till it ran a shore.

Weather now a day’s more extreme, with higher highs and lower lows. It has become more volatile by the year. Why is this happening? How? What can we do to stop it and what will happen to us if we do not stop it? Well the why and how is easy. In a nutshell, we make “greenhouse” gasses and they go in to the atmosphere. In the summer the gasses block the heat from the sun from leaving the earth’s atmosphere and in the winter it blocks the little bit of heat from getting in. What we can do to stop it. Some of this is simple and easy, some not so much.

Stuff like not littering, not driving when you can walk or bike. Take public transit in the city. Alternative power and fuel would work too. These are simple easy ways to cut down on your “carbon foot print”.

Harder things are things like lowering carbon emissions for big companies and the like, or stuff like carbon capture.

This shows how carbon capture could work. I have some issues with carbon capture. Like it is just going to mask the problem and let us continue to use carbon and not fix the problem.

Then there is this...

Well whatever we do we have to do it soon, or we will not have a livable planet to play on. Next time that iceberg may not be stopped and then what will happen?

Big Brother is watching you!

Odds and ends.

That one guy said "I almost died out there." Then some other guy said "pretend it ain't like a 50 foot drop". I would not do this not even for lots of money. I really grown accustom to this living thing. Though when they sat on the deck that would be fun.

Ok, so this one is in German but it is still cool.

And lastly a moment of silence please for the Hockey Night in Canada theme song.
...
...
...
...
...
...

Ok, that was long enough. So work on the street is that as of last nights Red Wings win over the Penguins we here in Canada will no longer be hearing that theme song of Canada. The one we all know and love and brings a flood of child hood memories when we here it.

Word has it that CBC is not renewing there license to use the song. It had till now cost the company about $500 each use. You may thing that sounds like a lot but just think that one ad during that game has that covered and they still would make money. So it really is not that much. Though I bet the lady, Dolores Claman, who wrote the song back in 1968 does not see that much of the money. Copyright Music & Visuals probably got the bulk of it.

No word yet from CBC but I think it has to do with the lawsuit that Dolores filed agant them in late 2004, that is still unsettedled. I guess we will see what song they will use next year soon enough.

Pleo

Pleo At Sea World 2008

This has to be one of the cutest things ever! Thank you Mikey for posting it on facebook.

Pleo for those who are not in the know are one of the greatest inventions in the world. They also have to be one of those things that are on a list of things you want but would never ask any one to get for you. I do plan on getting one, one day. I did get my iPod touch, did I not?

Anyway the Pleo is a robot! A robot dinosaur! Now how cool is that? (Rhetorical I already know it is uber cool.) Apparently one of the dudes that worked on the Furby made him and this great company called Ugobe took up manufacturing it. So this robot dino! Will "learn" from its environment and adapt its own personality. It aslo (this is great) dances! It has some beat detection thing and will dance and listen to music. There are a bunch of other cool features to but you can check out the wiki I linked in on the name.

OMG

2012

2012 is when the Mayan's calendar says the world is going to end. It seams lately though that so is a lot of things.

What if you ever wanted to go to a great website but could not because your ISP said you do not have that package to go to it?

What if you made this site and one day every one just stopped coming to it? The money you made from the ads would stop and then what? Take the site down?

Don't you think we would all loose if that happened?

2012: The Year The Internet Ends

Let's not let this happen here, or anywhere on earth.
